SAG reports suspected puma capture in Aysén

The Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) in Aysén has filed a formal complaint with the Environmental and Cultural Heritage Crimes Investigation Brigade (BIDEMA) and the Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the suspected capture of a puma (Puma concolor).

The incident occurred in a rural area near Puerto Cisnes. SAG had previously been monitoring the area following community reports of a puma's presence. To ensure the safety of both the local population and the animal, officials had installed camera traps and prepared a trap for potential relocation to a protected habitat.

Despite these monitoring efforts, the puma was not recorded by the cameras during the follow-up period. SAG regional director Óscar Videla expressed deep regret over the potential hunting of the animal, noting that the species is protected under Chilean law 19.473.
