In Argentina, researchers also recorded a Leopardus pajeros, or pajonal cat, moving across the snow-covered steppe of Santa Cruz province.

In Chile, camera traps from the University of Chile recorded a puma and a colocolo cat in the Quebrada de La Plata Natural Monument near Maipú, confirming the area’s role as an active ecological corridor. The colocolo cat sighting is particularly notable as it had not been recorded in that area for over six years.

However, new challenges to wildlife protection have emerged. In the Aysén region, the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) filed a formal complaint regarding the suspected capture of a puma near Puerto Cisnes. Despite SAG monitoring the area with camera traps to facilitate potential relocation, the animal was not recorded during follow-up periods. SAG regional director Óscar Videla expressed regret over the potential hunting of the animal, noting that the species is protected under Chilean law 19.473.
