Santiago del Estero Mayor Norma Fuentes rolls out new urban social and cultural programmes
Mayor Norma Fuentes of Santiago del Estero announced the launch of the “Somos el Club” network, linking municipal services, civil‑society NGOs and local sports clubs to provide neighbourhood protection, inclusion and development programmes. The initiative will offer gender‑equality workshops, literacy classes, addiction prevention, support for seniors and cultural activities.
She also inaugurated the Plaza de las Ciencias, a 6,000 m² public space featuring a giant equatorial sundial, interactive scientific exhibits and accessible infrastructure. “We are transforming an unused building into a green, educational place for all ages,” Fuentes said.
Later, Fuentes and Coordination Secretary Mario Benavente supervised a municipal operation in the Ejército Argentino neighbourhood, carrying out street cleaning, lighting upgrades, tree planting and other urban‑maintenance works. “These interventions result from exhaustive surveys that identify each neighbourhood’s needs,” the mayor explained.
All three actions were presented as part of a coordinated municipal strategy to improve quality of life and civic participation in the capital.
