Sagrada Família reaches 172.5 meters with completion of central tower exterior

The Sagrada Família basilica in Barcelona has reached a major structural milestone with the completion of the exterior of the Tower of Jesus Christ. Following the installation of the tower's upper arm and a four-armed cross made of curved glass and white glazed ceramic, the building has reached a height of 172.5 meters.

This achievement coincides with the centenary of the death of architect Antoni Gaudí. While the exterior silhouette of the central tower is now complete, internal work on the tower and other areas of the basilica continues. The project utilizes modern digital fabrication and computer modeling to interpret and execute the complex geometric forms and three-dimensional models originally conceived by Gaudí.

Beyond its architectural significance, the temple is viewed as a ‘stone catechism,’ where light, color, and form serve to express religious identity and community. The structure is noted for its forest-like interior, featuring columns that branch out to support the vaults.
