Sagrada Família tower construction milestones

Overview

The Sagrada Família basilica in Barcelona has reached significant structural milestones regarding the Tower of Jesus Christ. The project reached a height of 172.5 meters following the completion of the tower’s exterior, which includes a four-armed cross made of curved glass and white glazed ceramic.

In February 2026, a 17-meter-high cross constructed from glass, steel, and concrete was installed atop the tower. This structure, engineered by the German firm Josef Gartner, features a stainless-steel frame and a concrete core with a walk-through interior. The completion of this tower marks a major phase in the 144-year construction process of Antoni Gaudí’s masterpiece. While the exterior silhouette is complete, internal work on the tower and other sections of the basilica continues using modern digital fabrication and computer modeling.
