Sahrawi children complete ‘Vacaciones en Paz’ summer program in Spain

The ‘Vacaciones en Paz’ program continues to facilitate summer stays for Sahrawi children from the Tindouf refugee camps across various regions in Spain. The initiative allows minors, typically aged between 10 and 12, to live with host families to enjoy rest, leisure activities, and medical check-ups away from the extreme conditions of the camps.

In Alcázar de San Juan, five children were recently honored by municipal representatives before their return to the camps. In Rivas-Vaciamadrid, 13 minors completed a two-month stay, with local associations noting the importance of rebuilding host family numbers following the pandemic. In the Campo de Gibraltar region, 23 children participated in recreational activities, including cinema visits.

In Navarra, more than 100 minors have been hosted through the ANAS association, which has operated the program since 1997. These children participate in community visits and receive school supplies as they prepare to return to the refugee camps in late August or early September.
