Saharawi refugee children conclude 'Vacaciones en Paz' program in Spain

The 'Vacaciones en Paz 2026' program is concluding its summer cycle, facilitating the return of Saharawi refugee children to the Tindouf camps in Algeria. In Asturias, 87 children who spent the summer with host families will participate in a demonstration for peace and justice in Gijón on August 30 before their scheduled departure on September 3.

In Cantabria, groups of minors managed by local organizations are departing via Loiu Airport on August 27 and 28. The program provides children with relief from extreme temperatures in the camps, access to medical check-ups, and improved nutrition.

Organizing entities, including Cantabria por el Sáhara and CEAS-Sáhara, emphasized that while the solidarity program is vital, it serves as a reminder of the ongoing refugee crisis caused by the occupation of Western Sahara and the pending decolonization process.
