Sahel Confederation validates security and diplomacy reports
Parliamentarians of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) met in Niamey to validate reports from the Defense and Security, Diplomacy, and Development commissions. Under the presidency of Dr. Ousmane Bougouma, the session focused on enhancing regional cooperation. Key recommendations from the Defense and Security commission include the ratification of an additional protocol on internal security, the creation of a criminal intelligence-sharing mechanism, and the expansion of the IRAPOL system to Mali and Niger.
The Diplomacy commission urged the three states to develop a protocol for the free movement of people and goods within the AES space. Additionally, the Development commission presented a report regarding the economic model and financing viability for media within the confederation.
In a separate regional initiative, the national forum for women and girls, organized by the FEMIN-IN movement in Ouagadougou, concluded with the adoption of a roadmap for peace and security. Participants addressed issues such as leadership, protection, and the social support of women survivors of gender-based violence and those affected by the ongoing security crisis.
