Sahel region marks graduation ceremonies for security officers and social workers

On 3 July 2026, the École d’État-Major des Forces de Sécurité in Algeria graduated its third promotion of 30 officers from the three Sahel Alliance member states, awarding them a dual military‑state‑major and master’s degree. The ceremony, attended by General Élisée Jean DAO, emphasized the need for professionalised security cadres to confront terrorism and trans‑national crime.

A day earlier, 2 July 2026, the 29th promotion of Burkina Faso’s former National School of Social Service celebrated its 30‑year anniversary in Ouagadougou. Alumni, including former mayor Simon Compaoré, reflected on the role of social workers in post‑crisis reconstruction and resilience, highlighting contributions to vulnerable populations amid ongoing security and humanitarian challenges.

Both events underscore a regional focus on strengthening institutional capacity—military and civilian—to address the persistent security and social crises affecting Sahel countries.
