Sahra Wagenknecht's BSW rejects AfD candidate in Saxony‑Anhalt election
Sahra Wagenknecht, founder of the new socialist BSW party, has said the party will not support the AfD’s candidate Ulrich Siegmund for minister‑president in the upcoming Saxony‑Anhalt state election. BSW leader Amira Mohamed Ali also ruled out backing the CDU’s Sven Schulze, stating that neither offers the change the party seeks. Instead, BSW will back an “over‑party” candidate who could command a rotating majority.
Wagenknecht has repeatedly criticised the “firewall” strategy of mainstream parties against the AfD and urged a new model of a non‑partisan minister‑president. Polls show the AfD leading with over 40 % while BSW polls remain below 5 %. Earlier media speculation about a Wagenknecht‑Weidel pact was dismissed as attention‑seeking.
