SAIC Motor project in Ferrol nears approval as Galicia boosts industrial innovation
The Spanish government is expected to authorize a foreign direct investment of approximately 200 million euros for SAIC Motor within the coming weeks. This approval will allow the Chinese automotive group to establish its first European factory in Ferrol, Galicia. The project focuses on assembling MG brand electric vehicles imported from China and is projected to create over 2,000 direct and indirect jobs.
In a related industrial development, the Galician government (Xunta) is launching the ‘Industrializa a Innovación’ program. This initiative includes 60 million euros dedicated to pre-commercial public procurement for strategic industrial sectors, modeled after existing defense and security procurement processes. The broader regional strategy aims to allocate over 400 million euros toward business innovation in upcoming budgets to foster high-skilled employment and local industrial growth.
