Saigon River pedestrian bridge main span begins 124km transport journey
A massive 3,400-ton steel structure, designed to resemble a water coconut leaf, has begun its 124km waterway journey from Dai Dung Shipyard in Vung Tau to central Ho Chi Minh City. The transport includes a 1,400-ton main steel arch and a 2,000-ton specialized support frame.
The convoy, consisting of one main tugboat, two side tugs for direction control, and one backup tug, is navigating through various waterways including the Soai Rap, Nha Be, and Saigon rivers. To ensure safety, the convoy moves only during daylight hours and anchors at designated buoys overnight.
The project, sponsored by Nutifood, aims to create a new architectural landmark connecting Bach Dang Wharf with the Thu Thiem urban area. The main span is expected to arrive at the construction site near Thu Thiem by the afternoon of October 19, with the final joining (hợp long) scheduled for October 21.
