Saigon River pedestrian bridge completes 3,400-ton load test
The Saigon River pedestrian bridge project has reached a major milestone following the successful load testing of its 3,400-ton steel arch assembly. The structure, featuring a design inspired by water coconut leaves, was tested at the Dai Dung Mechanical Construction Trading JSC factory in Vung Tau using 30 multi-axle self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) and hydraulic systems.
The testing confirmed that the bridge's deflection and stiffness meet design specifications, ensuring structural stability. The assembly includes a 1,400-ton main bridge structure and a 2,000-ton specialized support frame.
Following the successful test, the assembly is scheduled to be loaded onto a barge between October 15 and 16. It will then be towed from Vung Tau to Ho Chi Minh City, with the final bridge joining (hợp long) expected to take place around October 21, 2026, depending on hydrological conditions. The project is currently approximately 90% complete.
