Ho Chi Minh City pedestrian bridge reaches major construction milestone

Construction of the pedestrian bridge over the Saigon River has reached approximately 90% completion following the successful joining of its main span on October 21, 2026. The 720-meter structure, representing an investment of approximately $38.65 million, features a design inspired by the shape of a nipa palm leaf.

The bridge will connect the Bach Dang wharf to the new Thu Thiem urban area. To support the massive steel arch, engineers constructed large underwater foundations. One primary pier base covers nearly 1,800 square meters and required approximately 650 tons of steel and 7,450 cubic meters of concrete. Due to underwater obstacles discovered during drilling, contractors utilized a specialized method of assembling reinforced concrete "caissons" directly on the riverbed with the assistance of divers.

Following the removal of temporary steel support frames, the bridge's unique arched silhouette has become visible, attracting local residents to the site.
