Saint Francis returns to theatre in new musical production

The theatrical production ‘Fratello Sole Sorella Luna’, directed by Piero Maccarinelli, is bringing the story of Saint Francis to the stage. Based on the screenplay from Franco Zeffirelli’s 1972 film, the musical comedy explores the life of Francis and Clare during the years 1202 to 1209.

Following its debut in Assisi, the production is scheduled to open at the Guglielmi in Massa on October 4 as part of a wider tour. The play focuses on the historical context of the Middle Ages, highlighting the tension between rising commercial wealth and the choice of poverty, portraying Francis not as a static icon but as a young man making radical life decisions.
