Artistic productions regarding Saint Francis
Overview
Various artistic productions centered on the life of Saint Francis of Assisi are being presented in Italy.
A new film titled ‘La leggenda dei tre compagni’, directed by Arnaldo Casali and starring Francesco Salvi, is scheduled to premiere in Terni. The film serves as a sequel to ‘La stella di Greccio’ and depicts the final years of the saint through the perspectives of his companions, drawing on Franciscan sources like the ‘Compilazione di Assisi’.
Simultaneously, the musical comedy ‘Fratello Sole Sorella Luna’, directed by Piero Maccarinelli, is touring Italian venues including Massa. Based on a screenplay from Franco Zeffirelli’s 1972 film, this stage production explores the years 1202 to 1209, focusing on the tension between medieval commercial wealth and the choice of poverty.
