Saint Moses the Black commemorated in Orthodox calendar

The Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Moses the Black on September 10. Originally an Ethiopian bandit and leader of a gang, Moses underwent a profound spiritual transformation through repentance. After abandoning his former life, he entered a monastery, dedicated himself to prayer, fasting, and asceticism, and eventually became a priest and founder of a monastic community.

According to tradition, Moses predicted a barbarian attack on his monastery. He chose to remain with a small group of monks rather than flee, ultimately dying alongside them during the raid.

Other saints commemorated on this day include Saint Sava of Kripets, a monk who founded a monastery by Lake Kripets, and the righteous Prophetess Anna.
