Ukraine launches massive drone attack on St. Petersburg infrastructure

Ukraine conducted one of its largest aerial assaults of the war, launching over 1,000 drones against Russian territory, including a major strike on St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region. The attack targeted critical energy, logistics, and digital infrastructure.

In St. Petersburg, fires erupted at the Petersburg Oil Terminal and the Ruchi oil depot, the latter of which has a capacity of approximately 74,000 cubic meters. The strikes also hit a VKontakte data center and an Ozon logistics warehouse. Local authorities reported that one person died and at least five others were injured. The assault caused damage to approximately 12 residential buildings and a bridge, while strikes on the Vostochnaya substation left roughly 20,000 residents without power.

Russia's Ministry of Defense claimed to have intercepted 1,015 drones across 15 regions, Crimea, and the Black Sea. The escalation follows recent diplomatic tensions regarding an “energy ceasefire” proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. While Trump had called for a halt to strikes on energy infrastructure to stabilize global fuel prices, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia has struck Ukrainian energy sites 76 times in the past week, arguing that Moscow has not honored any truce.
