Overview

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has evolved into a multidimensional struggle focused on the destruction of critical national infrastructure, characterized by an intensification in aerial and maritime drone warfare. In mid-September 2026, Ukraine intensified its campaign against Russian energy and military assets. On October 15, Ukraine used the Neptune missile system to target the Borisoglebsk airbase, reportedly destroying six Su-34M/NWO bombers, while a drone strike hit a Rosneft refinery in Ryazan. On October 18 and 19, 2026, Ukraine deployed approximately 1,000 drones in one of its largest offensives, targeting St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region.
