Trabzon rail system urban transportation infrastructure project public transit groundbreaking ceremony

The Trabzon urban rail transit system project is set to begin construction with a groundbreaking ceremony at Avni Aker Millet Bahçesi on September 1, 2026. The project is being coordinated by the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

The first phase of the project will span 16.2 kilometers, connecting the City Hospital to Trabzon Airport via 16 modern stations. To preserve the urban fabric, much of the line will be constructed through tunnels, while other sections will feature surface-level tracks. The construction will be carried out by a joint venture between Kalyon İnşaat and Makyol İnşaat.

Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç has established a specialized team to coordinate the ceremony, which is expected to include regional governors, mayors, and local representatives. The project aims to modernize the city's identity and provide more efficient, comfortable public transportation for residents.
