Sakarya hazelnut harvest continues amid quality assessments

Hazelnut harvesting is ongoing in the high-altitude areas of Sakarya, one of Turkey’s most significant production centers. Producers in the Hendek district have begun the process of spreading, sorting, and drying the harvested nuts.

Weather conditions have had a mixed impact on the crop. While recent rainfall has improved the internal fullness and yield of the hazelnuts, it has also led to an increase in the rate of perforated or damaged nuts. Despite efforts to manage the issue, producers report that the high moisture levels have made it difficult to prevent these defects, necessitating intensive sorting work.
