Sakunoya cafe offers watermelon-themed shaved ice in Sano

The shaved ice cafe Sakunoya, located in Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture, is offering a limited-time seasonal dessert called ‘Summer Vacation Watermelon’ through August 31.

The dessert is designed to look like a miniature watermelon, using handmade, additive-free syrups: strawberry syrup represents the fruit flesh, while kiwi syrup represents the rind. Chocolate chips are used to mimic seeds, and the center contains espuma fresh cream.

Opened in December 2025 by owner Naho Kawashima, the cafe also offers other specialty items, such as a ‘Butterfly Pea’ shaved ice that changes color from blue to purple when lemon juice is added.
