Rome man arrested for killing mother and hiding body in wardrobe

A 51-year-old man, Andrea Morabito, has been arrested in Rome following the murder of his 71-year-old mother, Iole Liberatori. The victim's body was discovered inside a wardrobe in their apartment in the Tor Bella Monaca district.

Investigators report that the crime occurred during the night between August 13 and 14, 2026. Morabito initially claimed his mother had died after an accidental fall, but he later confessed to the Carabinieri that he had attacked her. The motive is believed to be a dispute triggered by the son's repeated requests for money to fund a drug addiction.

Following the confession, the public prosecutor issued an order for Morabito to be held on suspicion of homicide and concealment of a corpse. He has been transferred to the Regina Coeli prison pending judicial validation.
