Salento drug trafficking ring dismantled by Italian authorities

Italian authorities have dismantled a criminal organization responsible for drug trafficking and distribution in the Salento region, specifically targeting Presicce-Acquarica and Lecce. The operation, coordinated by the DDA of Lecce and executed by the Guardia di Finanza, resulted in eight arrests.

Investigators identified Cengs De Paola, 56, as the leader of the group, with Valentina Ingrosso, 35, acting as a promoter. The group utilized a unique distribution method where Ingrosso would use a basket lowered from a balcony to collect cash and deliver doses to buyers.

The investigation also uncovered violent activities linked to the group, including an attempted murder in December 2022. During that incident, Ingrosso allegedly shot and wounded Francesco Guida following a dispute over the management of drug supplies and illicit proceeds. The group faces charges of criminal association for drug trafficking and possession with the aggravating factor of firearm availability.
