Salerno and Brescia roll out enhanced municipal police units to boost safety

The mayor of Salerno has created a dedicated Nucleo Operativo Sicurezza (NOS) within the municipal police force. Within 24 hours the NOS agents began patrols, targeting drug‑dealing hotspots, illegal parking and other forms of street disorder, aiming to raise residents' sense of security across the city.

In Brescia, the "Agenti di comunità" program, now four months old, has engaged about 1,300 citizens and performed 1,390 checks. The initiative resulted in nine arrests – seven for drug offences, one for robbery and one for evasion – as well as numerous fines, vehicle seizures and referrals to social services. The project focuses on crime prevention, urban decor and linking residents with public services.
