Salford police arrest man following two-day rooftop standoff
A 48-hour police standoff in Salford, England, concluded after officers arrested 37-year-old Simon Harris from the roof of a property on Reservoir Street. Harris, who was wanted on recall to prison, had barricaded himself on the roof, reportedly throwing tiles and creating risks for residents and emergency responders.
During the early hours of the operation, an officer climbed a ladder to the roof and approached Harris while he was asleep. A struggle ensued when Harris woke, resulting in both the officer and Harris falling from the ladder. Two police officers sustained minor injuries during the incident.
Harris appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court, where he faces charges including burglary, assaulting an emergency worker, intentionally causing a public nuisance, and criminal damage. He has been remanded in custody, with a pre-trial hearing scheduled for September 21 at Manchester Crown Court.
