Salford rooftop standoff and arrest

Overview

A 48-hour standoff in Salford, England, concluded with the arrest of 37-year-old Simon Harris. Harris, who was wanted on recall to prison, had barricaded himself on a rooftop on Reservoir Street, where he reportedly threw tiles and created risks for residents and responders.

Greater Manchester Police officers ended the incident by using a ladder to approach Harris while he was asleep. A struggle ensued, causing both Harris and an officer to fall from the ladder. Two police officers sustained minor injuries during the operation.

Following his arrest, Harris appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court. He faces charges including burglary, criminal damage, public nuisance, and assaulting an emergency worker. He has been remanded in custody, with a pre-trial hearing scheduled for September 21 at Manchester Crown Court.
