Salford police arrest wanted man following two-day rooftop standoff

A 48-hour standoff in Salford ended with the arrest of a 37-year-old man who was sleeping on a rooftop. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) responded to the incident at a property on Reservoir Street after being requested by another police force to arrest the man, who was wanted on recall to prison.

Specialist officers from the Tactical Aid Unit ended the standoff by placing a ladder against a back porch roof and grabbing the man while he was asleep. A struggle occurred as he was pulled down from the roof, resulting in his arrest in the garden of the property. Two police officers sustained minor injuries during the incident.

The operation caused disruption to the local community and resulted in damage to some nearby properties. The suspect remains in custody on suspicion of burglary, criminal damage, public nuisance, public order offences, and assaulting two police officers.
