Salford tower blocks to receive £2.2 million for heating upgrades

Salix Homes has secured £2.2 million in government funding through the Heat Network Efficiency Scheme (HNES) to upgrade heating systems in five Salford tower blocks. The investment will benefit more than 500 residents across Nine Acre Court, Floral Court, Black Friar Court, Newbank Tower, and Riverbank Tower.

The planned improvements include modernizing communal heating systems, plant rooms, and pipework, as well as installing better insulation and replacing heat interface units and meters. These upgrades aim to reduce energy waste and carbon emissions while helping residents lower their energy bills.

This latest funding follows a £1.2 million award earlier this year for upgrades in Pendleton. Combined, Salix Homes has secured approximately £3.5 million to improve eight of its ten tower blocks that utilize communal gas heating. Work is expected to begin next year.
