Sali Berisha accuses Albanian government of corruption and crime mismanagement
Sali Berisha, leader of the Democratic Party, has issued sharp criticisms against Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Albanian government, alleging widespread corruption, indifference, and a lack of control over crime.
Berisha highlighted recent challenges, including numerous wildfires that threatened residential areas and the perceived lack of financial support for firefighters. He characterized recent citizen protests as a ‘hurricane of freedom’ and warned that political unrest will intensify during the autumn.
Furthermore, Berisha accused Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari of misleading the public regarding the arrest of wanted individual Ylli Zalla, claiming Zalla surrendered voluntarily rather than being apprehended by police. Berisha also cited recent violent incidents in Sarandë and Elbasan as evidence that the country is ‘totally in the hands of crime’ and criticized the effectiveness of law enforcement.
