Salina Turda to undergo 25 million euro expansion project
Salina Turda, a major tourist destination in Romania, is set to undergo a significant expansion project valued at approximately 25.3 million euros (over 126 million lei). The development focuses on Mina Iosif, also known as the ‘Echo Chamber’, located roughly 115 meters underground.
The project aims to transform the 10,000-square-meter space into a multi-functional underground hub for relaxation, sports, and balneal treatments. Planned facilities include sports courts, climbing walls, children's playgrounds, billiard tables, a cinema, and dedicated areas for wellness and recovery.
To facilitate access, a new gallery will be excavated through the salt massif to connect Mina Iosif with the already accessible Mina Terezia. The expansion will also feature panoramic elevators capable of transporting up to 64 people at once. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2029, during which time the salt mine will remain open to visitors.
