Salmonellosis outbreaks reported in Eibar and Navarra

Health authorities in northern Spain are investigating significant salmonellosis outbreaks. In Eibar, Basque Country, an outbreak linked to egg-based dishes served at a hospitality establishment has affected 29 people and resulted in nine hospitalizations. One resident died following the consumption of an egg dish; investigations are currently focusing on food handling, storage, and egg traceability.

Simultaneously, Navarra has reported a record number of salmonellosis cases in 2026, with 245 confirmed cases—more than double the usual amount for this period. A recent outbreak in Pamplona’s Casco Viejo involved at least nine individuals, several of whom required hospitalization. Public health officials note that Salmonella is frequently associated with egg consumption and can multiply rapidly if food is not cooked to a temperature above 65°C.
