Salomon expands global footprint through urban gravel running events

Salomon is expanding its presence in the outdoor and urban running markets through new competitive events and strategic brand positioning. In Milan, the 16th Salomon Running event drew 3,000 athletes from 44 nations. The 20 km competitive race was won by Roberto Giacomotti in 1h09’21”, while Sofiia Porokhnavets took the women’s title in 1h24’13”.

In China, the brand is promoting “Gravel Running,” a hybrid discipline that blends urban and trail running. Following a recent event in Chengdu, a new challenge is set to launch in Shanghai. This initiative aims to transition Salomon from a pure mountain performance brand to a modern mountain sports culture brand that integrates outdoor experiences into urban lifestyles.

Financially, Salomon, a core brand under Amer Sports, reported $2 billion in revenue for 2025, a 35% year-over-year increase. The company is aggressively expanding its retail footprint in China through large-scale flagship stores and a direct-to-consumer model to strengthen its premium positioning.
