Salormey Awiti Baffoe detained by Ghanaian security agencies

The family and legal representatives of Salormey Awiti Baffoe, a nurse at the Abetifi Hospital in Techiman, are calling for her release following her arrest and detention by security agencies in Ghana.

According to her legal counsel, Enoch Afoakwa, Ms. Baffoe was taken from her home at approximately 11:00 PM on a Saturday. While initial reports from her family suggested she was detained by individuals identifying as National Security operatives due to alleged connections to a social media commentator known as ‘Ghana Jollof’, her lawyer stated she was questioned regarding a mobile money transaction and the distribution of offensive videos.

Lawyers and family members reported difficulties in locating her, noting that various agencies, including the Ghana Police Service and the National Security Secretariat, initially could not confirm her whereabouts. Her legal team eventually located her at the National Signals Bureau before she was transferred to the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), where she was cautioned on allegations of abetment of crime. Her lawyer has accused state security agencies of violating her rights and denying her access to legal counsel during interrogation.
