Salta declares agricultural emergency in Calchaquí Valleys

The government of Salta has declared a state of agricultural emergency and disaster following frost damage in the Calchaquí Valleys. The decree covers the period from September 12, 2026, to March 31, 2028, affecting viticulture and fruit and vegetable producers.

The measure applies to the departments of Cafayate, San Carlos, Molinos, and Cachi. The declaration follows damage assessments conducted by the Provincial Commission for Agricultural Emergency and/or Disaster, which included producers, mayors, and technical organizations such as INTA and SENASA.

Producers who have suffered crop losses exceeding 50% can access benefits under Provincial Law No. 6.241. To qualify, they must submit a sworn statement of damages within 20 business days of the official publication on October 29. The Secretariat of Agricultural Development, under the Ministry of Production and Mining, will manage the certification process.
