Salta Government Proposes Federal Equity Regime to Reduce Provincial Inequality
The government of Salta has presented a proposal to the Argentine Senate aimed at reducing structural inequalities between provinces through a new framework called the Federal Equity Regime (REF).
Presented by Salta's Minister of Economy and Public Services, Roberto Dib Ashur, the initiative seeks to complement the existing federal tax sharing system rather than demanding a full reform of the current regime. The proposal suggests incorporating objective, measurable, and solidarity-based criteria to distribute resources more effectively.
The REF focuses on addressing disparities in infrastructure, connectivity, socioeconomic development, and fiscal capacity among different jurisdictions. The goal is to provide tools that direct funds toward closing the gaps caused by the varying economic and territorial realities of Argentina's provinces.
