Salta Governor promotes mining potential in northwest Argentina

During a presentation at the Council of the Americas in Buenos Aires, Salta Governor Gustavo Sáenz highlighted the significant mining potential of northwest Argentina. He emphasized that the provinces of Salta, Catamarca, and Jujuy are working in coordination to capitalize on the global energy transition by leveraging resources such as lithium, gold, silver, and borates.

Sáenz noted that the region offers legal certainty and stable regulations to attract long-term investment. He cited ongoing projects from companies including Río Tinto, Costco, and AbraSilver, which currently exceed $5 billion in investment and are projected to reach $12 billion in the near term.

The Governor also stressed that mining development must integrate local communities through local hiring laws and training programs. To support this growth, he identified a critical need for improvements in logistics and energy infrastructure, including new roads, gas pipelines, aqueducts, and railway corridors.
