Saltillo launches initiative to craft handmade prostheses for breast cancer survivors

The Saltillo Municipal Government, through the Municipal Women's Institute, has launched the ‘Puntadas de Amor’ (Stitches of Love) workshop to support breast cancer survivors. The initiative aims to create 600 handmade breast prostheses to be distributed free of charge to women who have undergone mastectomies.

The project was founded by Liliana Gámez Pérez, a two-time breast cancer survivor, who developed the idea after seeking alternatives for her own prostheses. The workshop will be held at various companies and institutions, allowing participants to contribute directly to the production of the prostheses using soft, breathable textiles and comfortable filling materials.

In addition to manufacturing, the workshops include talks on the importance of early detection and prevention of breast cancer. The finished prostheses will be delivered through civil society organizations and the Municipal Women's Institute to support the physical and emotional well-being of survivors.
