Saltillo officials propose higher fines for illegal dumping and increase noise inspections

Saltillo municipal authorities are implementing stricter environmental enforcement measures. Mayor Javier Díaz González announced a proposal to increase the maximum fine for illegal dumping of trash and debris in streams and other city areas by 35 percent by 2027. This increase, which exceeds inflationary adjustments, is being integrated into the upcoming revenue law to serve as an exemplary punishment for violators.

In a separate environmental enforcement effort, the municipal government has conducted inspections of bars in the Historic Center to monitor noise levels. Between January and August, 11 inspections were carried out by the Directorate of Environment and Sustainable Development. Several establishments faced legal scrutiny for exceeding decibel limits established by NOM-081-SEMARNAT-1994 or for failing to present valid environmental licenses and equipment calibration proofs. Some cases have been referred to the Municipal Court for the imposition of sanctions.
