Saltillo environmental enforcement and waste management

Overview

Saltillo municipal authorities have initiated stricter environmental enforcement measures to combat illegal waste disposal and noise pollution. Mayor Javier Díaz González proposed increasing maximum fines for illegal dumping in streams and city areas by 35 percent by 2027. Additionally, the Directorate of Environment and Sustainable Development has been conducting noise level inspections in the Historic Center, referring establishments that exceed decibel limits or lack proper licensing to the Municipal Court.

As part of the “Tómala Cochino” campaign, which enforces zero tolerance for littering, the Environmental Police recently detained a 22-year-old man for disposing of debris from a dump truck near a stream in the Loma Linda neighborhood.

Beyond environmental enforcement, the city has expanded its public safety operations to target public alcohol consumption. Recent operations have resulted in 24 arrests and a total of 239 detainees over a period of five weekends. Concurrently, municipal authorities are conducting infrastructure maintenance, including repairs to bridge joints on Emilio Arizpe Boulevard to enhance road safety.
