Misiones province registers fiscal deficit in 2025

The Argentine province of Misiones posted a fiscal shortfall for 2025 after two years of balanced or surplus budgets. The 2025 primary deficit reached 1.3 % of revenues and the financial deficit 1.4 %, amounting to a shortfall of 47.8 billion and 51.7 billion pesos respectively. Revenue grew 3.4 % year‑on‑year to 3.76 trillion pesos, while spending rose 6.6 % to 3.82 trillion pesos, tipping the accounts into the red.

Compared with the national picture, Misiones suffered the fifth‑smallest financial deficit among Argentine provinces, better than the national average of 2.1 % of revenues. The province’s deficit was notably lower than those in Tierra del Fuego (-16.3 %), Chubut (-8.2 %), Santa Cruz (-6.3 %) and Buenos Aires (-5.9 %). Earlier, Misiones had posted a modest surplus in 2023 and 2024, but the higher spending in 2025 reversed the trend.
