Salto, Uruguay: Pitbull euthanized following fatal attack on elderly woman

A pitbull has been euthanized by judicial order in Salto, Uruguay, following a violent attack on a 71-year-old woman. The incident occurred at a residence on Diego Lamas Street, where the victim was alone with the animal, which belonged to her grandson.

The attack resulted in severe injuries that required the amputation of both of the woman's legs. Despite medical efforts in intensive care, she passed away following the incident. The euthanasia procedure was carried out at the Salto Veterinary Polyclinic under police supervision to fulfill the court's mandate.

The National Institute of Animal Welfare (INBA) and the Prosecutor's Office are reviewing the case. The tragedy has reignited public debate regarding responsible pet ownership and the regulation of potentially dangerous breeds under Uruguayan law.
