Pitbull attacks involving elderly victims

Separate incidents involving pitbull attacks on elderly women have been reported in Mexico and Uruguay.

In Tampico, Tamaulipas, authorities are investigating an attack where a 60-year-old woman was seriously injured. Following the incident, a confrontation occurred between pets, resulting in a woman using a knife to kill the pitbull to protect her German Shepherd. The Tampico Ecology Directorate and the Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado are cooperating on the investigation, which includes potential criminal charges and fines for the individual who killed the animal, as well as complaints against the pitbull’s owners.

In Salto, Uruguay, a 71-year-old woman died following a violent attack by a pitbull at a residence. The injuries were so severe that both of the woman’s legs required amputation. Following a judicial order, the animal was euthanized at the Salto Veterinary Polyclinic under police supervision. The National Institute of Animal Welfare and the Prosecutor’s Office are reviewing the case, which has prompted public debate regarding the regulation of dangerous breeds.
