Salvador Metro introduces women‑only cars during peak hours

Starting Monday, August 3, the Salvador Metro (CCR Metrô Bahia) will operate a dedicated women‑only carriage on each train during peak periods—6 am to 9 am and 5 pm to 8 pm—until August 28. The cars, identified by external stickers and positioned as the second or third carriage depending on direction, are part of the "Agosto Lilás" campaign aimed at combating violence against women.

Security staff wearing lilac shirts and promotional teams will be present at stations to guide passengers, and audible announcements will reinforce the initiative. The measure mirrors a similar program already in place in Rio de Janeiro, offering women a more comfortable and safer travel environment during the busiest times of day.
