Salvador museum hosts traveling Bienal de São Paulo exhibition

The Museu Nacional da Cultura Afro-Brasileira (MUNCAB) in Salvador is hosting a traveling exhibition from the 36th Bienal de São Paulo. Running from September 5 to November 29, the showcase titled ‘Nem todo viandante anda estradas – Da humanidade como prática’ features works by 14 Brazilian and international artists.

Curated by Keyna Eleison and Thiago de Paula Souza, the exhibition explores dialogues with Afro-Brazilian and Afro-diasporic cultures. The selection includes local Salvadoran artists such as Antonio Társis, Alberto Pitta, and Nádia Taquary. Taquary’s installation, ‘Irókó: A árvore cósmica,’ which was originally commissioned for the 36th Bienal, returns to its place of origin.

International contributors include Myrlande Constant, Berenice Olmedo, Théodore Diouf, and American photographer Ming Smith, who is presenting over 50 works documenting the Black diaspora. This marks the third time Salvador has hosted a traveling exhibition from the Bienal de São Paulo.
