Salvadoran film Vértices selected for Oscar consideration

The Salvadoran film “Vértices,” written, directed, and produced by Arturo López Rodas, has been selected by the National Film Committee of El Salvador (CINESAL) to represent the country in the Best International Feature Film category for the 99th Academy Awards.

The film follows the reunion of three longtime friends at a funeral, exploring themes of friendship, loss, and the passage of time. “Vértices” has previously received international recognition, including Best Screenplay at the 2025 Ícaro International Film Festival and Best International Feature at the 2026 Cobb International Film Festival.

To proceed in the selection process, the film must be formally submitted to the Academy before the September 30, 2026, deadline. The Academy will announce a shortlist of 15 films on December 15, with the final five nominees for the category to be revealed on January 21, 2027. The Oscar ceremony is scheduled for March 14, 2027.
