Lanzarote: Salvamento Marítimo rescues migrants from multiple vessels

Salvamento Marítimo has conducted multiple rescue operations involving migrant vessels in the Atlantic Ocean northeast of Lanzarote, Canary Islands.

In one major operation, authorities rescued 148 people from two separate boats, including a wooden patera and an inflatable raft. The occupants included 14 women and six minors. The rescue was coordinated by the Las Palmas Coordination Center after a merchant vessel confirmed the presence of the vessels in high seas.

In a separate, more critical incident, authorities rescued 82 people from an inflatable boat. This operation resulted in at least three deaths and left one individual in critical condition, requiring helicopter medical evacuation. Moroccan authorities reportedly requested Spanish assistance for this operation due to a lack of available resources at the time.

Another reported incident involved the rescue of 79 migrants from two boats, where three fatalities were confirmed and one person required emergency medical transport via helicopter. These events highlight the ongoing dangers of the Canary Islands migration route.
