Salvamont România issues summer safety warnings for hikers

Salvamont România, led by president Sabin Cornoiu, has issued a set of safety recommendations for the coming summer mountain season. The agency warns that bears and vipers are increasingly descending onto hiking trails, and advises tourists to choose activities that match their physical fitness, to carry appropriate equipment and supplies, and to be prepared for sudden weather changes such as short‑duration thunderstorms, hail, lightning and rapid temperature shifts. Cornoiu also notes that some high‑altitude sections still retain snow and that loose stones can become unstable after freeze‑thaw cycles, so hikers should watch their footing. Salvamont’s rescue teams are shifting their focus from winter‑sport areas to the most visited tourist zones and are adapting their assistance programmes accordingly.
