Sam Wood denied bail on domestic violence and strangulation charges
Sam Wood, a former star of The Bachelor Australia and prominent fitness influencer, has been refused bail following his arrest in Noosa, Queensland. Wood faces charges of assault occasioning bodily harm and strangulation in a domestic setting.
During a hearing at Maroochydore Magistrates Court, prosecutors alleged that Wood choked his wife, Snezana Wood, to the “cessation of breath” and threw her against a wall. Police argued that Wood poses a flight risk and an unacceptable risk of witness interference. In response, Wood’s defense lawyer, Mathew Cuskelly, stated that his client denies the strangulation allegations and may argue self-defense, claiming the encounter was a result of a “hostile” interaction.
The allegations have had immediate professional consequences for Wood. DBG Health, the company that owns his fitness brand 28 by Sam Wood, has terminated all arrangements with him following his indefinite suspension.
Wood, 46, remains in custody while the legal proceedings continue. The defense has also noted Wood’s diagnosis of severe depression and pointed to a paramedic's report regarding the nature of the physical injuries sustained.
