Domestic violence charges against Sam Wood

Sam Wood, a fitness entrepreneur and former star of ‘The Bachelor Australia’, was arrested by Queensland Police following an incident at a property in Noosa. Wood faces two counts of domestic violence: assault occasioning bodily harm and strangulation in a domestic setting.

Following his arrest, Wood was refused bail at Maroochydore Magistrates Court. During the hearing, prosecutors alleged that Wood choked his wife, Snezana Wood, to the ‘cessation of breath’ and threw her against a wall. Police argued that Wood poses a flight risk and an unacceptable risk of witness interference. In response, defense lawyer Mathew Cuskelly stated that Wood denies the strangulation allegations and may argue self-defense, claiming the encounter resulted from a ‘hostile’ interaction. The defense also noted Wood’s diagnosis of severe depression and cited a paramedic's report regarding the nature of the physical injuries.

The allegations have resulted in significant professional fallout. DBG Health, the parent company of the ‘28 by Sam Wood’ brand, terminated all commercial arrangements with him, citing a ‘zero tolerance for domestic violence’. Wood has also been stood down indefinitely from his company.

In a joint social media statement, Wood and his wife, Snezana Markoski, noted they are ‘working through this as a family’ and are ‘thoroughly co-operating with the authorities’. Wood remains in custody while legal proceedings continue.
